KNACK Studio
36 Fifth Avenue, NY, USA

14th of March 2015

Dear Mr. Smith,

It is with great enthusiasm that I saw the opening for an internship at KNACK Studio, a position which perfectly matches my experience, skills and career ambitions.

Your company's culture is all about outstanding, innovative design, and I admire your vision. The projects of your studio are setting standards in the industry (I particularly loved the MOQ project) and I would love to work for your company. Who wouldn’t?

I am currently a fourth semester master student in Product Design Engineering at Glasgow School of Art, Scotland and over the last 7 years, I’ve built my education on one simple principle: Work smarter. I’m the person who looks for inefficient procedures and transform problems into challenging projects through critical thinking, creativity and innovativeness.

My technical knowledge, conceptual and architectural skills, combined with my enthusiasm and creativity make me an asset to the KNACK Studio team. Moreover, my international experience and global mindfulness would be a positive contribution to your organization.

I am thrilled at the possibility of being part of KNACK Studio team  and would love the opportunity to meet with you and discuss the value that I can bring to the organization.

Thank you for your time and consideration in reviewing my materials. I look forward to hearing the good news from you.

Sincerely,

PRISM NIGHTLIGHT

The goal of this project was to explore a personal light device and create an innovative product taking inspiration from a notable designer. I researched the subtle subconscious cues from Naoto Fukasawa’s design philosophy, along with his playful attitude to create my design. The Prism is a simple night-light inspired by the classic see-saw. The light is turned on by a single tilt of the product.

Salt “plus” Pepper is a modern take on traditional shakers. Inspired by puzzles, the pepper satisfies the feeling of fitting the last piece into a puzzle. The salt and pepper shakers are combined into one structure, making it easier to pass around the dinner table. Strong magnets hold the pepper inside the salt. I created these functional prototypes out of urethane foam and milled aluminum for the caps.

GRETCHEN CHAIR

This independent summer project was created from scrap cedar boards from the hull of a sailboat. The special concave/convex sides of the boards fit together to allow for easy flexibility and strength. This unique technique creates curves that mimic those of the sailboat and creates a strong durable chair.
